Extremities: The Lengths I Go To!

The extremity I am recording occurred on the practice area at Burnley Golf Club during a snowball fight circa 1985.

The area is exposed, winds rush over the moors and the snow often drifts, but never as bad as on this day. What started out as a bit of fun rapidly turned to panic as the worst blizzard I have ever seen before or since set in with no warning. Finding ourselves unable to see more than 5 yards ahead the decision was taken to head for a wall where hopefully the snow would have drifted.

After ten minutes of slow walking a stone wall providing shelter was reached. Taking the wind chill factor into account, an air temperature of -5 degrees celsius combined with a wind speed of 50 km/hr the temperature felt like -15 billion degrees celsius.
